Four month quicksand of books
So we have been a little quite this year and there are a few reasons why. They are called awesome books.
We get swept up in chocolate, coffee, family, school, and work, but books are our quicksand. Before we know it, we're sucked into the pages and lost four months of our blog. lol
Now we have come up for air before, about to start another and thought we best share some beauties with you. Y'all know we never share bad ones as much as they take our reading time also, what the hell is the point of that.
So here we go peeps.
1st read of 2014
Let's start with Pretty Little Things by +Teresa Mummert
rating of 4/5
Blurb: I was young enough not to understand that my life was different. Colin became the one person that I could count on to protect me. He suffered for the both of us by carrying the burden of our secret.
We were the lucky few that got a chance to start over. A fake family, a new home and a pretty little life built on lies. But while our lives continued to intertwine, we were put on very different paths. Now it was only a matter of time before they collide and the beast behind the beauty is exposed.
This is a darker read, those babies we love at the moment. Now here is the thing, Cole is a dark honey. He wants to protect Anna, he wants to keep her safe from his hell, he wants to take her as his own.
It was a suspenseful read and the only down side was we felt the additional character of Jacob was a bleh character. He was to make Colin jealous we think, but he had no necessary involvement for how much he was in the book. We just wish there was more substance to him and Teresa 'finished' his character off at the end. Not kill him, just do something with him. It was almost like he was an afterthought, like there was supposed to be more but she wanted to finish it up.
But don't let this stop you from reading it, It was a great read and one of us read it in one sitting. Teresa managed to make a hot read that kept me on the edge of my seat.
2nd read of 2014
Unravel by +Calia Read
4.5/5
Blurb: Six months ago, I was happy. I was simply Naomi Carradine. One month ago, I was admitted into a psych ward. Yesterday, Lachlan visited me. Kissed me. And told me that I’m starting to lose my mind. Hours later, Max haunted my thoughts, reminding me I’m not crazy and that he needs my help. A few minutes ago, I drifted further from reality, trying to unravel the past. And now...everyone thinks I’m insane. But, I know he's real, and I know he needs me. Do you believe me?
Holy Crappers! What a ride.
This one will throw you, you will think you have it all worked out and then BAM!
Okay, so we actually worked it out about half way but almost right at the end we were thrown a curve ball.
It is a freaking goodie. Only reason it lost a .5 was because I kept getting confused in the beginning with the time jumps, it could have been 'done better' for flow.
Unravel is a go to read.
We both loved this one.
#3 read of 2014
Roar by Aria Cage
5/5
*Roar contains adult content and is not suitable for readers under the age of 18*
Blurb: Charlie
I’m shadowed by sins; mine and the ones passed on to me. The only light comes in the way of him. He wants to fix me, but he can’t fix something so lost and broken. I'm completely undeserving and secretly unwilling. But how do I turn away the one person my body and soul soars for, the one thing that makes me forget the fear, the loss and the guilt? How do I stop the primal need which we are addicted to?
Nate
She is a stranger amongst the world, a captive behind her smiles and lies which shelters the truth. But I know her, we are caged together with the demons and guilt, yet my love is stronger against all our loss and I want to help her heal, to set her free. Under her cloak still lies my scared kitten, feral to her soul because of what he took from both of us. If it’s the last thing I do, I will help her roar like the tiger I know her to be, even if it means setting her free from me.
Caged by their demons and primal need, will their love be strong enough to set them free?
INTENSE! Yeah, that is just one feeling I have for this read.
Nate, we all need a Nate to fall in love with. He was someone I just wanted to hold tight. He loved Charlie beyond anything, went through the worst hell for her. Both he and Charlie were dealt the most monstrous childhoods that made it hard to read and feel, but feel I did.
It will make you cringe, cry, and scream out for their HEA. That's all I wanted for them.
It is a must read, but very dark and emotional.
# 4,5,6 and soon to be 7 reads of 2014
The Lux Novels.
Obsidian, Onyx, Opal, Origin by @Jennifer L. Armentrout 5/5
Blurb:
We have decided not to add the blurb because it contains spoilers and we DETEST those. Just trust us when we say if you love a pararom young adult novel, then these babies are for you.
We were told of these novels by two different readers so we needed to get on the wagon...oh boy aren't we glad we did.
Daemon is HOT and at times a douche, but we just LOVE him. In fact there is a bit of a fight over him. There is no moment in this series that we dont adore him. At times we could smack him, but we would love that too.
Kitten 'Katy' I love the way he says 'Kitten' CJ had nothing on this nickname. Kitten will always be Katy and Daemon's. the growth, the sub-characters...freaking everything about this series screams to be read. Oh, and the fact she is a teen review/blogger like one of us, just tickles.
This is a MUST READ!
So one of us is ready for Origin while the other is still reading Opal. Gotta go and get this finished!
Happy Reading peeps

Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire review
I've had this one on my shelf since release because I was scared. Yep, scared.
I was scared that Jamie would ruin my love, lust and adoration for my misunderstood bad boy. My daughter read it first and then handed it to me and said, "Read." Then she just left.
Okay, I thought. Time to just suck it up and do it.
Now I know the author and she's a freaking gem, but she knows I will be honest. LOL.
I started the book and began to read, still a little scared. That is until I realised there was more to the pages then a recap of Beautiful Disaster, this was Travis. His thoughts are more than offsets of Abby's, they are original and deep.
In this book I actually sobbed a bit for what he was going through even when I knew it was coming because it was so damn raw. I knew almost everything and kept reading because he captivated me and then you get to the part you never see coming!
I NEVER DISCLOSE! you must read it yourself.
The book was wrapped up so flipping well, I wanted more. MORE!
So, Beautiful Wedding, here I come!
Thanks Jamie.

Chapter 1
The Big Apple
Walking through the crowds, I gazed out of the vast window at the sparkling lights of New York. “Does he know I’m here?”
Daniel shook his head. “You asked me not to say, so I didn’t. I’m really glad you’re here though. He’s been fucking miserable since we left Long Beach. Besides, with you here, I have someone to talk to and keep me from going crazy. Things are about to get real hectic at the company. You sure you know what you’re in for?”
I gave him a puzzled look and he smiled at me. “Guess not. Well, you’ll learn.”
Daniel wasn’t just Jared’s driver; he was his friend, even if Jared didn’t realize it or choose to admit it. I felt that the two of us had also become friends. After all, he’d had my back so many times I’d lost count. When I’d been arrested, it was Daniel who’d called Jared and, as it turned out, broken several traffic laws to get to him. That awful night at Felix’s apartment would have ended a lot differently had Daniel not called Jared and warned him of our activity. I had a lot to thank him for and keeping him company during our time together, was the least I could do. I figured that it must be lonely work driving Jared around. Sitting there, in the front seat, a screen between them; it all seemed awfully secluded, isolated and impersonal. I was not going to be one of those high society girlfriends that I saw in magazines and newspapers. The ones that look as though they have caramel stuck to the end of their noses and pout a lot when people speak to them. I was definitely not buying into the hype of that lifestyle. Daniel was stuck with me now and I was determined that we were going to have some fun.
“Do we have to go straight to the apartment? Will he get suspicious if you’re gone?”
He eyed me skeptically. “I guess not. I told him I had to run errands and he’s been so distant, he just kinda nodded and dismissed me. I could have been naked and dancing and he wouldn’t have noticed. He’s really not himself right now.”
My heart sank. My intense, hot mess, business man was in pain and I was the cause. Bitch.
I was desperate to see him and put him out of his agonizing misery but I was also determined to get to know Daniel better. I was going to be spending a lot of time with him during the next few months and aside from Jared, he was the only person I knew in New York and I hardly knew him at all.
Reaching the exit, Daniel gestured to the shiny, sleek Mercedes parked curbside. I smiled at the familiarity of it. Opening my door, he ushered me inside before running around to pack my case into the trunk. He got into the driver’s seat and glanced back, smiling at me. I leaned forward and rested my hand on his shoulder. “I’m starving. Dinner?”
He gave me a look that told me he was unsure if it was such a good idea. “I don’t know. I mean, aren’t you anxious to see him?”
I shook my head. I wasn’t anxious to see him, I was freaking out from nerves and the more I worried, the harder my stomach churned. “Nope. I’m hank marvin and I need something to eat before I throw up from nerves.”
He chuckled. “Hank marvin?”
I nodded. “Yeah, you know, starving? I heard it on t.v once.”
He threw his head back and laughed. “Since you put it that way, I’d be happy to have dinner with you. There’s a burger joint just around the corner or do you want something a little fancier?”
I shrugged. “I think, a nice juicy burger sounds awesome.”
****
Sitting in the booth, I scanned my surroundings. New York was a far cry from Pasadena or even Long Beach. It was almost eight in the evening and the streets were still bustling with people.
The burger bar was quiet though. It was one of those nineteen fifties diner types and had a jukebox playing in the corner. The waitress rolled over on her skates and placed the most enormous cheese burger that I had ever seen, in front of me. The smell of greasy food and the delicious vanilla from my creamy and ice cold milkshake was a welcome scent. Every single bite of my meal was like a taste of heaven. I really was hungry. I hadn’t eaten properly in days and I finally had my appetite back. I was definitely looking forward to my first New York bagel too. Bagels. Coffee. Ollie.
My heart plummeted into my stomach again and I suddenly lost my appetite. My chest felt tight and I could feel unshed tears begging to be released.
I could only imagine how broken he was right now. I’d done a horrible thing and I’d done it over a text! It was selfish, cowardly and I deserved whatever hate or anger he was feeling toward me. He hadn’t replied or called since and I knew that we were not only done as lovers but also as friends. He’d never forgive me now and I didn’t deserve him to.
Daniel frowned at me. “You okay? You seem a little distracted. You’re not having second thoughts are you?”
Snapping out of my mood and forcing thoughts of Ollie out of my mind, I shook my head. “No. I’m just a little tired from the flight.”
He smiled and took another big bite of his burger.
Pushing my plate away, I leaned back and cocked my head to the side. “So, I guess you’ll be keeping me company while Jared works huh? I hope you don’t mind. I promise not to be high maintenance and to make it as much fun as I can.” He grinned and pushed his plate away, cleaning his hands on a napkin.
“It’s my job to take you wherever you want to go. Jared doesn’t usually use the Mercedes unless he’s going to a formal dinner or social. He’ll take the Jag so that leaves me at your disposal. Shopping shows and sightseeing; I’m the man to take you there. With Jared’s permission, of course.”
Jared’s permission? I rolled my eyes and shook my head at the statement. The whole time we’d been together he seemed to think he could dictate where I could go, how and with whom. Things were going to change and for the better, I hoped.
“You leave Jared to me. I want to see everything. All the sights this city has to offer and Jared is not going to stop me from having fun. I’m an adult and it’s time he started treating me like one.”
Daniel nodded but I could see he was conflicted. “Well, if anyone can handle him, I’d say you can. Speaking of Jared, we should probably get going. You ready for this?”
I bit my lip and smiled. I was so ready I was practically giddy with anticipation. Rolling his eyes, Daniel paid for our meal, even though I’d begged him to let me and we made our way back to the car.
Sitting in the back, I needed a distraction as my nerves began to swarm in my stomach. “So where’s home for you Daniel?”
He looked at me in the rear-view mirror. “Illinois. I moved to California when my dad got transferred to another division of his company. I was about thirteen. My mom moved back to Illinois after the divorce though. How about you?”
“Pasadena.”
He nodded and smiled. “Small town boy, small town girl and here we are in the big apple. Have you ever been to New York before?”
I shook my head. “Other than San Francisco, I’ve never really traveled beyond Long Beach. You like it here? I mean, you must be here a lot with Jared and his business.”
He glanced in the mirror at me again and I saw his eyebrows furrow. “Can’t say I hate it or love it. It’s where I am. I have an apartment here which Jared pays for and I look at it as just another place I work. It’s not like I vacation here or anything. I’m on duty all week and some Saturdays, so I never really thought about whether I like it. I hardly know it. I’ve never seen the sights or anything else New York has to offer outside of the functions I drive Jared to.”
I felt bad for him and decided then, that I would do everything I could to make his time and mine in New York more fun.
“I guess we’re both gonna have to make New York home for now. Stick with me Dan. I intend to have lots of fun while I’m here.”
He smiled and chuckled a little. “Dan?”
I blushed. “Do you hate it?”
He shook his head. “I like it. Dan. Yep. You can call me Dan Miss Jennings.”
I grinned and leaned forward to his seat. “And you must call me Layla. Deal?”
His smile widened. “Deal. Well, we’re here. I’ll get your bags and give you a minute to breathe. You look a bit flushed.”
I looked at myself in the rear view. I was beet red. Nerves were no longer swarming; they were twirling like a tornado in my stomach.
We’d pulled up in front of an impressive building. With its white brick and elegant golden window frames, it was certainly extravagant and definitely expensive. One look at the name above the golden framed glass door told me I was right. ‘Garrett Towers’. It was one of Jared’s for sure.
My eyes immediately darted to the top floor where he would no doubt have the penthouse. My heart did a little skip and my insides twisted.
Opening my door, Daniel smiled and held my bags in his hand.
“Ready?” Now there was a question I had no answer to.
Ready to go up there? Absolutely. Ready to see Jared? Oh good God yes. Ready to leave my old life behind and start my new one with him? Well, that would come eventually. Wouldn’t it?
The doorman saw me exit the car and nodded at Daniel. “Layton, this is Miss Jennings. She’s here to see Mr. Garrett. Would you please grant her entry while I park the car?” The large and burly gentleman scanned me from head to toe as I stood awkwardly on the sidewalk. I bit my lip anxiously.
Opening the door, he smiled politely. “Of course. Right this way. Let me take your bags for you ma’am.”
Daniel grinned at me and nudged my arm, immediately pulling me from my dazed state. “You gotta go in there some time. He’s going to be thrilled to see you. Go on. Get in there girl.”
I beamed back at him and threw my arms around his neck. “Thank you so much, Dan. Wish me luck.”
He snorted. “You don’t need it. He’s crazy about you. I’ll catch you later. Have a good night.” Giving me a wink, he got in the car and drove away toward a large pair of iron gates, which I assumed, led to the parking lot beneath the building
Layton cleared his throat loudly. Giving him an apologetic look, I followed him inside.
The foyer was a gleaming white and the front desk was a beautiful ivory stone with gold trim. It matched the marble floor perfectly. I stood at the elevator and fidgeted mindlessly. When it finally chimed and the doors opened, I was so caught up in my thoughts, it startled me a little. I could hardly breathe as we entered and as Layton reached for the keypad, I caught his hand in my own. “I just need a minute.” Taking a deep, calming breath, I held my nerve and nodded at him. He pressed the ‘P’ on the panel and I hitched a breath as the doors closed and we headed, rapidly, to the penthouse. Well, here we go.
Uh-oh, right?
Well we will have to wait...or you will. I get lucky and see it before Y'all. (Insert wicked laugh. Mwahahahahahah)
So stay tuned folks and add this sucker to your calendar, TBR list, whatever. Nove 1st is the date to be waiting for.

Running from Forever blog tour- Ashley Wilcox
It's a TRAVESTY I tell ya!
I ran out of time on this one and wanted so badly to do a review as I have for the other 'FOREVER' books by @Ashley Wilcox. But I promise it is next!
My partner in crime has gone on a whimsical holiday around the glorious US so I'm left to do it alone and have failed.
Please don't let my failure stop you though, because I can assure you this...Ashley rocks!
Would Kayla finally stop running or would it all be too much to handle?

Excerpt:
She let out an
exasperated breath. “No. No, I gotta figure this out.” She turned to face me,
legs crossed, intertwined. “I don’t know what to do, Merrick.”
I felt it in my chest. She was lost,
pleading for help. I didn’t know if I was the best person to help her. I’d
lived just as fucked up a life myself. From the age I could run, I did, staying
at friend’s houses almost every day of the week, stopping home quick after
school just to make sure my mom hadn’t overdosed and was dead on the floor. I
did this almost my whole life…up until I ran here.
“I can’t really help you, babe, if I
don’t know what happened,” I told her as sympathetically as I could, looking
into her sad eyes. Even if I wasn’t the most qualified person to give advice, I
wanted to help, but I also needed to know what happened first.
Kayla rubbed her face with her
hands, keeping them over her eyes for a minute longer. She was thinking;
questioning if she was ready to spill. I didn’t want to force her to do it, so
I sat there quietly. I wish I could just sweep her up and run far, far away;
take her away from all the bad in her life permanently, but that would mean I
had to run again, and I was done running. I couldn’t do it anymore.
“I loved him.” Her voice was a
whisper. She removed her hands from her face but only to look down to her
crisscrossed feet. She couldn’t look at me while she told me, and I was okay
with that. “I let my guard down when I knew I shouldn’t have, but I couldn’t
help it.”

C.J Roberts, Dark Duet review
Holy eff!
What a damn ride I have been on for two days.
You know, I love reading, I love it a lot and I have to say I love seeing the growth of genres and adaptability at learning and accepting what's out there. I have said it before, +E L James made it socially acceptable to read mommy porn and openly talk about it and what did this do? It opened up a whole apartment block of taboo we all lick up like we are thirsty cats in the Sahara.
Now I'm not saying @C J Roberts is another mommy porn maker, No! But she definitely took me from my comfort box and threw me in the dark where I began to feel things VERY taboo.
I will be honest, it did take me four attempts at reading the first book- Captured in the Dark and it wasnt because I thought it was bad or not well written, I was just not ready to take that jump into...well, the dark I guess.
It was actually +Pepper Winters Tears of Tess that made me go back, that and a friend of taboo who claims CJ was better. Well, I said, if CJ is better than I have to give it another go, right?
Now it is also my personal opinion, so drop the pitch forks, that CJ's duet isn't better. I was actually more fond of PW and I say this because it is a totally different type of book. We shouldn't compare them at all.
With CJ's I was crushed so many times and felt so wrong to love someone so bad...so broken and at times mean. It was so dark at first I couldn't see where I would or could possibly fall for some one like Caleb. Of course, I did fall for him. I fell pretty hard because of his feelings for his Kitten-Livvie. I loved how true love conquers all, even a life of such torture in every sense.
If you have attempted this book before, I urge you to push past that page and then the next, and the next because it wont be long before you are utterly consumed by Master and his Kitten.
I lost two days to these books, the second one longer than expected actually with a surprise of an extra epilogue for the fans, but I enjoyed it completely.
@C J Roberts is quite a smart author I believe because in the throws of all that is going on with Caleb and Kitten, we also meet Matthew. I get the feeling we might meet Matthew in a series of his own. Matthew reminds me of an FBI agent from +Karin Slaughter's novels- Will Trent. I loved him and I think I have a thing for Matthew too. I'm such a book boyfriend whore!
So, what I want from you all is to take the risk. turn another page, and then another, and so on, because you won't regret pushing your boundaries with this dark romance.

OMG!
I just finished TLITW and I gotta say I'm so in love and torn and ... a mess. Christine did a great job showing the life of a woman from early childhood right through some of the toughest moments of her life.
I have to say I was stressed to the max at certain points, messaging Christine my GAHHH moments and how much I hated and loved and hated and loved and wanted to kill or lick characters ... yeah LICK. God, I need a bit tonight after that read.
Not only is it an emotional rollercoaster it has some H.O.T moments.
There were a few times I wanted to throw my kindle across the room (I say my kindle meaning my phone coz I don't have a kindle. Don't judge me. I take my phone everywhere so I can read on the go) But I refrained from throwing my lifeline across my house and actually had to walk away and wash up. I HATE washing up, but I needed a breather.
This is saying something about the gift in her writing.
(spoiler)
It was a Jesse's love / hate for me, and because I didn't totally understand him I fell for Alex right away but always held a soft spot for Jesse. It was real hard to say no to Jesse for me every time he popped up and at some point I screamed at Isabel for going back to him. Oh dear God. I was cranky. He didn't know how to love and he wan't good for her. I'm so glad she found love in Alex.

If you find it a rough start as my daughter did (I'm glad she didn't keep going, it was hotter than I expected and she is too young)and gave up, please don't. It's one of those. Remember I said this about The Edge Of Never, well this is the same. HANG IN THERE. It's worthy of the time and emotional investment.
ohmygosh, I was scared they would eff this up, I needed a happy ending.
I give it 5 delicious stars because Christine made my chest ache, mad me mad and made me so damn happy.

Thank you my dear friend Christine for such a beautiful story.
My Two favourite scenes in this book, other than the awesome sex- for Jesse is the baseball game with Issy. For Alex, in the car he challenges her cuss 'motherf@#ker' into the traffic. LOL
The book isn't just filled with love and heartbreak but great moments of laughter too.
I actually Highlighted this in the book.
